POSITION SUMMARY

This position requires routine interactions with incoming patients and clients to obtain patient information and treatment authorizations. This includes Registering patients and clients for health care services through the Burns Paiute Tribal Health Department, ensuring all policies and procedures are observed, preparing forms, verifying insurance benefits, collecting, and maintaining current information as each visit and explaining eligibility requirements for services is a major part of the responsibilities.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

*Serves as receptionist and provides administrative support for all tribal health programs such as answering phones, routing calls, taking messages, providing general information, receives and directs visitors and/or patients.

*Register patients and clients for health care services using the Indian Health Service Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS).

*Maintain office supplies and prepare purchases orders for ordering.

*Obtain demographic information from patients/clients that includes accurate insurance information, copies of insurance cards, and missing information needed for registration and billing purposes.

*Knowledge of electronic health record system(Athena) to communicate with provider regarding patient records and referrals.

*Make referrals as ordered by physician to outside physician offices for continued medical care.

*Obtains signatures and release of information forms as necessary for billing and continued medical care purposes.

*Pull charts for tribal health clinic and for the community health nurse visits before patient

arrives.

*Schedules appointments and helps with transportation arrangements, as necessary. Informs the Community Health Representative of transportation needs for patients.

*Maintain RPMS scheduling package, cancelled appointments, no shows, and reschedules. *Attend trainings related to position.

*Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

High school or GED diploma

Basic computer, typing, and clerical skills

Knowledge of basic medical terminology

Must have ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.

Ability to work under stress.

Must be able to meet, greet, and work with a variety of people and agencies in a positive manner.

Indian preference will be given to candidates showing proof of enrollment in a federally recognized tribe. In the absence of Indian applications meeting the qualifications as listed above, all applicants not entitled to or who fail to claim Indian Preference, will receive consideration without regard to race, color, sex, political preference, age, religion, or national origin.

 

Successful Candidate must:

Must submit to and pass a drug test.

Must submit to a child welfare and criminal background check

Must possess a valid driver’s license

Must provide three (3) years of driving record to determine eligibility for coverage under Tribal automobile insurance policy.
