Hello! I am Matthew Hanneman, and I am excited to be the new Wildlife Biologist for the Burns Paiute Tribe Natural Resources Department. I was born and raised in central Wisconsin. After high school I served for 4 years in the U.S. Army. Once my enlistment was completed, I attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point (UWSP) where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Research and Management and developed a passion for studying and managing birds, primarily raptors. I spent several field seasons banding and studying raptors at field stations around the Midwest including Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory, Linwood Springs Research Station, and Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch. I returned to UWSP and earned my Master of Science in Natural Resources and completed my thesis on the migration ecology of Red-shouldered Hawks in Wisconsin. My most recent job was with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as a Wildlife Technician. In my free time I enjoy birding, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with my wife and two daughters.
