POSITION SUMMARY

Management of the Burns Paiute Tribe transitional shelters and at risk of shelter programs. Oversee outreach, development, prevention, intake and monitoring of the units and programs. Position dependent upon funding with current funding ending on June 30th, 2023.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Outreach/Prevention

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates a variety of services for interested and in-need homeless Burns Paiute Tribe community members
  • collaborates with the tribal and local departments and service organizations to connect homeless community members to appropriate supportive services, including medical health treatment, counseling, and permanent housing
  • Provides referrals to appropriate governmental agencies, and related health, mental health, and/or social services organizations.
  • Coordinates and assists homeless community members in completing forms, applications, and documents for related and available services.
  • Establishes and maintains effective and positive working relationships with clientele to provide paraprofessional counseling and case management services.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with various public and private service agencies, community groups and the faith-based community to obtain services for clients and stays abreast of new trends and practices in homelessness and human services programs and related issued in the community.
  • Assesses client needs and characteristics.
  • Identifies short-term and long-term needs, provides resources and referrals based on client needs and coordinates service delivery plans.
  • May interface with hospital personnel regarding emergency services and recuperative care for homeless individuals.
  • Prepares and presents written and oral information to program participants, City staff and officials, and community groups regarding program services; prepares agendas, staff reports and correspondence.
  • Attends community events, and other programs designed to raise the awareness of homelessness and community needs and issues.
  • Serves as tribal liaison to committees, commissions, program participants, community groups, and City staff and officials.
  • Evaluates programs and staff service delivery; makes program and personnel recommendations. Assists with the preparation of annual program budget; evaluates expenses and revenue by account and maintains financial records.
  • Maintains records and files pertaining to homeless program services received.
  • Prepares and monitors records and data that can be used for grants and administrative reporting.

 

Intake/Monitor

  • Process and review applications for shelter; Prepare and maintain all records, correspondence, and files
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and secure environment
  • Maintains property by investigating and resolving tenant complaints, enforcing rules of occupancy, inspecting vacant units and coordinating repairs and renovations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • HS Diploma
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Customer service experience
  • General knowledge office procedures and Microsoft office products
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures

 

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • AA or Bachelor’s in business, social work, human services or another related field
  • 2 plus year experience in homeless prevention or shelter setting
  • Budgeting experience

Indian preference will be given to candidates showing proof of enrollment in a federally recognized tribe. In the absence of Indian applications meeting the qualifications as listed above, all applicants not entitled to or who fail to claim Indian Preference, will receive consideration without regard to race, color, sex, political preference, age, religion, or national origin.

 

Successful Candidate must:

  • Submit to, and pass a drug test
  • Agree to a criminal background check
  • Sign confidentiality clause
  • Be insurable to operate tribal vehicles (3-year clean driving record)
